Hi all! At i-teachers we are passionate about helping others and wanted to help our local community by donating to the St Cross Church Foodbank in Manchester. The foodbank serves our home city of Manchester and is exclusive to three local schools who nominate families in crisis to collect any donations.
Government figures have revealed that a huge 17% of children in the UK as a whole were living below the breadline in 2016- the latest data available on a local level.
We are very proud of our team who all donated goods to the foodbank including beans, pasta, packet mixes, canned goods and a number of other items that are a staple part of an everyday diet. After collecting the contributions our fantastic consultant Jamie led the contribution by ordering and then then delivering the food with our CEO Andrew.
Rector Chris was able to receive our donation and explained how they are able to help the local community.
The St Cross Church Foodbank is part of a multi-foodbank trust named the ‘Trussell Trust’ organisation which does outstanding work around the United Kingdom, doing their upmost to banish poverty and hunger from local communities who may be struggling to feed themselves and their families due to a number of reasons, such as ill health, low income or high economic costs. The network consists of over 428 foodbanks, working to tackle food poverty and hunger in our local communities. In 2017/18, The Trussell Trust’s Foodbank Network provided 1,332,952 three-day emergency food supplies and support to UK people in crisis. Of these, 484,026 went to children.
A fantastic organisation that deserves every bit of praise and acknowledgement it gets for the work it does, and we were delighted that we could make a valuable contribution to such a worthy cause!
St Cross Church is located at 611 Ashton New Road, Manchester, M11 4UA. If you live locally or are passing by, you can donate by dropping in. The families collect the food every Friday!
