Welfare Officer

We are looking to appoint someone who believes passionately about making a difference to the lives of every student and who does so with integrity, humility and relentless positivity to join a dedicated and growing Safeguarding & Welfare team as a Welfare Officer.

The successful candidate will provide operational leadership in safeguarding students within the school; working with families and external agencies to ensure that students are safe, their needs are met and they can therefore reach their full potential.

Welfare Officer – The Role:

  • Welfare Officer – Full-time long-term role
  • Located in Small Heath, Birmingham (B10)
  • Paid £400-£450 per week, term time only
  • Start date: Immediate
  • Working in one school temp to perm

Welfare Officer – The Responsibilities:

  • Welfare Officer – Provide support for vulnerable pupils and families, including EAL support, working closely with SLT and the Inclusion Team
  • Work directly with children in need and their families to promote the potential of children and their carers
  • Communicate regularly with parents and nurture good relations and effective dialogue between parents and teachers about children’s progress
  • Implement the Safeguarding and Child Protection policies and procedures
  • Maintain detailed, accurate, confidential and up-to-date records on all cases of safeguarding and child protection
  • Provide support and guidance to other staff to assist them in undertaking their own roles effectively

Welfare Officer – Person Specifications:

  • Previous recent pastoral experience
  • Level 3 in Paediatric first aid
  • Passionate about making a difference to the lives of every student
  • Experience of establishing effective, appropriate relationships with a variety of young people at the relevant age and their families
  • A robust awareness of keeping children safe, noticing safeguarding and welfare concerns, and you understand how and when to take appropriate action
  • Belief that every student should have access to an excellent education regardless of background
