We are continuing with our series showcasing the incredible impact our Graduates are having in schools as part of our Step into Teaching programme. This week, meet Alice!
Alice is a passionate graduate who secured a role with us last year as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at a fantastic Secondary School! She wanted a role in which she could gain some hands-on teaching experience before diving into her teacher training. We recently got in contact with Alice to see how she was getting on!
What does your day-to-day role involve?
Most of Alice’s days consist of running intervention sessions with students who need some extra support in the classroom. “I run 1:1 and small group intervention sessions with students who need that bit of extra help. As well as this I run mini lessons for these students out of class time so this involves me doing lots of preparation – for example making resources for them to use, checking progress and planning my sessions”.
How is your role preparing you for your future career?
Alice has now successfully secured her place on a PGCE course in September 2021! “My role has given me a deep insight into the day-to-day life of qualified teachers which has been truly useful. I feel like I will be so much more comfortable going into my teacher training with this experience behind me”.
How was your experience working with i-teachers?
“I can’t speak highly enough of i-teachers! My consultant was Joe and he was absolutely brilliant throughout the whole process. Every problem I had was solved within minutes and the application process was really quick and efficient. I would suggest anyone thinking of getting into teaching or looking for a similar role to get in touch with i-teachers!”
What advice would you give to someone looking for or starting a role like yours?
Alice’s best advice to graduates looking for a similar role would be to keep an open mind! “I would say be as open minded as possible and be able to embrace any changes or opportunities that come towards you in your role. Every day is going to be different, and it really is what you make of it!”.
Alice’s testimonial is another great demonstration of what our ‘step into teaching’ programme is all about. There are so many options when it comes to teacher training that it can be confusing choosing which path to take. You may not want to commit to a teaching career when you have never experienced life as a teacher. This is where our ‘step into teaching’ programme comes in. Our experienced consultants place graduates in a paid teaching assistant position perfectly suited to your skill set, in a school that suits your personality. i-teachers’ friendly consultants are always with you every step of the way!
