Children’s Book Week at i-teachers!

All

This week for our Friday Blog we are joining in the celebrations of Children’s Book Week, held annually on the week of April 29th, celebrating the most valued and inspirational books for young children and people across the world.

First established in 1919, Children’s Book Week is the longest-running national literacy initiative. Events and activities are held across the country in schools, hospitals and a variety of other institutions in an attempt to emphasise the positive influence of reading and how it can impact the personal and academic development of young people. This week, we are highlighting some of the fantastic events and initiatives that are taking place across the world, to help people gain access to books and further emphasise the importance of reading and literary skills for children and young people.

Here’s what’s going on this week to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Children’s Book Week!

• Official poster, with activities, illustrated by award-winner Yuyi Morales and inspired by the 2019 slogan, Read Now – Read Forever. Free posters will be available at all events!

• A new Children’s Book Week Graphic Novel activity kit featuring art from amazing children’s graphic novel creators.

• Reformatted Children’s and Teen Choice Book Awards and voting through Book Week.

• Exclusive new bookmarks by six prominent children’s book illustrators.

• KidLit TV’s new CREATOR CORNER – are 100 three-to-five minute videos of children’s book authors and illustrators speaking about their favourite character creations to be released throughout 2019.
